Strigoi (How to Get Your Demon to Talk) [Jane Luca]

from Let Them Eat Chicken (Collaboration with João Clemente) by DavidJohnHull

lyrics

Strigoi

Is what they called it

Where and when I grew up

They said it lingered 40 days after one’s death

Demon

Is what I call it

Since I introduced myself to me

He lives alongside, and with many

To get your demon to talk

Be silent

To get it to want

Say “I don’t care”

To conjure, I’ll guide you

But that is something you must do

alone:

Take a task, something you must and want to do.

Now, don’t do it.

Do something else instead: feed your demon time.

Waste it on something pointless

Like typing essays of made up words

And when you mess-up,

It growls

It speaks back

The Strigoi never left. They are here. Haunting each one of us, by bunches.

You get to feed it time and desire

Or Stare it in the eye, first step to dominate. The rest will follow naturally…
